In celebration of Glasgow’s 1999 title UK City of Architecture and Design, Glasgow Print Studio invited twelve artists to work in its printmaking workshop to contribute to a portfolio of prints titled Habitat. The definition of the title was given 'the normal abode of an animal or plant; the physical environment of any community; the place where a person or thing can usually be found.' Each artist responded to this statement independently and as each work related to habitat in a different way, each work is exemplary of the particular artists own style or artistic focus.
The Habitat Portfolio consists of prints by Sam Ainsley ("Red Cocoon", screenprint), Martin Boyce ("Disappear Here", screenprint), Christine Borland ("The Quickening", screenprint), Jaqueline Donachie ("Blondes Versus Blondes", screenprint), David Mach ("Hostile Environment", screenprint), John Mackechnie ("French Connection", screenprint), Neil MacPherson ("Lipstick and almonds, the day memory awoke", screenprint), Bruce McLean ("Artist and Architect consider the possibilities of a building as a score for an opera for the city", csreenprint), Carol Rhodes ("Airport, Airport Hotel", lithograph), David Shrigley ("Untitled", etching), Ross Sinclair ("If North Was South And East Was West", hand-coloured etching) and Adrian Wiszniewski ("A Study in Vinyl", screenprint).
