40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
The urban landscape is a major influence on Philip Reeves’ art, developing from his work of the 1950s and 1960s which explored the forms and textures of natural rock formations and cliffs. Focussing on the patterns within these formations encouraged Reeves to experiment with the plate surface, and texture remains a source of exploration in his printmaking today. The areas of grid seen in this print are a recurring feature in other works by the artist. Philip also inks up and prints from found pieces of metal as well as creating collages using found objects.
Former Head of Printmaking at Glasgow School of Art, Philip helped to set up Glasgow Print Studio in 1972 and also founded Edinburgh Printmakers in 1967.
