Michael Fullerton was born in 1971 in Bellshill, Scotland. He graduated with an MA in Painting from the Glasgow School of Art in 2002.
He is recognised for his exploration of portraiture, depicting several historical figures, including Alan Turing and Samuel Goldwyn. Fullerton has created several works exploring the Hollywood studio MGM to symbolically represent the complexities of the relations between old and new media: the relevance of the individual artist's expression versus the media conglomerates who dominate our present-day culture.
His work has been exhibited widely nationally and internationally, including; Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh 2015; Chisenhale Gallery, London 2010; Centre of Contemporary Art, Glasgow 2005; Tate Britain, London 2005 and Gagosian Gallery, Los Angeles 2002.
