40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
With a background in printmaking and Natural History illustration, Helen Fay has explored a wide variety of the animal kingdom through her etchings. Dogs have been the focus of her prints in recent years, with the qualities of etching giving her lively depictions presence and depth. She captures the individual characters of her subjects, as demonstrated in this portrait of Ruby, an old lurcher. Ruby is described by the artist as “a faithful companion, no thoroughbred and not too chic but very watchful, intuitive and a great friend. If etching was a dog I'd think of it like this.”
Helen began using the Print Studio in 1997 and worked as an editioning printer before moving to Northumberland in 2010.
