Jo Ganter was born in Yorkshire, England in 1963. She moved to Edinburgh to study, initially completing an Art History degree, before graduating in Fine Art in 1988. Following scholarships in Rome and Tuscany, Ganter moved to Glasgow in 1992 where she became a member of the Glasgow Print Studio. She has been a member of the Royal Scottish Academy since 2004.
With a printmaking focus in etching, Ganter works across the spectrum of abstraction, and often employs a grid-like motif. While each suite of images is very different, the artist always works in series and consistently references grids and planes of colour or tone that move parallel to the picture surface creating a shallow depth.
