40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
The figure in this print is distanced from the viewer, shown in silhouette and deliberately out of focus with its back to the camera. In this way a sense of ambiguity is created, causing the viewer to question the reality of the image. Ganter makes etchings and digital prints, and the subject of a seated figure is one she has explored previously in different scales and media. This is a three-plate photo etching, the first the artist has made using RGB (Red, Green and Blue) colour separations. The process was influenced by her recent digital work.
Jo Ganter has been using the workshop regularly since 1990. She has had three solo exhibitions in the Gallery since 1998 and is currently Chair of the Glasgow Print Studio Board.
