40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
Everyday objects have provided inspiration for David Palmer’s work over a number of years. In particular, the jug has become a recurring theme, with the artist enjoying the “variety and personalities” of this simple item. The patterned image on this jug was printed onto the plate from an Indian woodblock before the etching process. The print has been produced using a number of etching processes including open bite, spit bite and aquatint plus scraping and burnishing. The artist explains, “etching allows me to create rich textures and atmospheric tones through deep etching, scraping, polishing and re-etching.”
David Palmer began working at Glasgow Print Studio as a member in 1987. He has worked as an editioning printer for the workshop as well as serving on the Education Committee and Board of Management for a number of years, including as Chairman of the Board for ten years.
