40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.

This particular piece, West 22, is a carborundum print, a technique the artist first employed at the Glasgow Print Studio. It is a type of etching where carborundum powder is used to make a paste that is applied to the etching plate, allowing for a textured surface to be created. It is an ideal medium to create painterly effects in a print. This piece is one in a series begun in a graphics studio in Dublin.

Barbara's work is often informed by the landscapes she encounters on her travels, many of which inspire the palette she uses in her etchings.

Barbara Rae had a solo exhibition of her monotypes at the Print Studio in 1987 and had four further solo shows between 1992 and 2003.
