This print was created in conjunction with the Glasgow Print Studio 50th Anniversary Here & Now Legacy Project. During lockdown he did a series of sketches, depicting some of Glasgow’s iconic architecture. The print also illustrates the symbolism behind the Glasgow Motto, which reads: 'Here is the bird that never flew, Here is the tree that never grew, Here is the bell that never rang, Here is the fish that never swam'. The print is made up of 10 individual linocut plates, handprinted using a baren.
Allan Richardson was born in Glasgow in 1965. He is a self-taught artist. He has been a member of Glasgow Print Studio since the early 1990s, and he is fascinated by a variety of printmaking processes. His personal areas of interest are etching, mezzotint, collagraph and linocut. His subject matter is inspired by the beauty of the rich and diverse Scottish landscapes, and the representation of everyday life in the city. Where possible he prefer to gather his source material from life and he can often be seen out and about with his easel and pencils sketching in the West End of Glasgow.
