This print was created in conjunction with the Glasgow Print Studio 50th Anniversary Here & Now Legacy Project. "For me, this work references ideas around coming & going, space, sculpture and the body. The image is intentionally ambiguous so as to leave space for a viewer to bring themselves into the print. The colour and halftone dot reference newspaper printing; I wanted to create a print that sits somewhere between a newspaper picture and a film still. An ambiguous landscape."
"I first used a version of this image for my Featured Artist exhibition at Glasgow Print Studio in June 2022. At the same time I was doing my masters degree in printmaking at the Glasgow School of Art. So, when thinking about what to make for the anniversary exhibition, I wanted to incorporate something that would remind me of this time and both organisations. I also wanted to reference themes I often use in my work: life, death, technology, media, the body. All of which are expressed through the medium of print."
“Printmaking is integral to my practice; I’m interested in the technology of print and how this relates to other media such a television, film and the internet. Loosely biographical, the work revolves around a sense of poetry & philosophy, often referencing ideas of memory, life and loss.”
“I joined Glasgow Print Studio in 2015 after taking a screenprinting course with artist & GPS tutor Rosalind Lawless. When I graduated from university and started working in television production, I continued to develop my printmaking practice at GPS in the evenings and weekends. When the covid-19 lockdown hit and work stopped, I applied for my masters degree in fine art printmaking at GSA. If it wasn’t for GPS, I wouldn’t have been able to develop my practice in the way I did and have had the confidence to apply for postgraduate study. It’s not just access to the facilities that is important, it’s also the other artists you print with, the conversations, the informal crits by the press. This is one of the many reasons why GPS is so important for our community.”
