This print was created in conjunction with the Glasgow Print Studio 50th Anniversary Here & Now Legacy Project. "Each Christmas, (almost) without fail, I make a card for family and friends….usually a linocut, and generally featuring an angel. Some years ago, the image I created was one of a postage stamp, with the Queen’s head replaced by that of an angel, and ‘franked’ as though sent from Heaven. The print itself was very basic, but I always felt that it was an idea that had much more mileage, so for this project I was happy to take it a bit further. On this occasion, the Queen is replaced by a saint, and it has been posted from Elysium. The whole postage stamp idea also, incidentally, provided a good opportunity to tie in some numbers/dates significant to the GPS anniversary. I have always been delighted by things which are outwith their normal scale, from dolls’ houses to Claes Oldenburg sculptures."

Helen Wilson was born in Paisley in 1954, and studied Drawing and Painting at Glasgow School of Art from 1971 - 76, after which a Cargill Travelling Scholarship allowed her to travel to Colonsay and Italy. Since then she has lived and worked in Glasgow, exhibiting regularly throughout the UK. A passion for theatre has led to her discovering (and mining) rich sources of inspiration behind the scenes with companies such as The Royal Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Scottish Opera and Company Chordelia. She won the Scottish Drawing Competition three time, in 2005, 2000 and 1997, and the inaugural Scottish Portrait Awards (Fine Art) in 2017. She was also awarded a Garrick/Milne Competition prize commission to paint David Suchet in 2003. She was elected RGI in 1984, RSW in 1997, and PAI in 2005, and is represented in many private and public collections, including Glasgow Art Gallery, Kelvingrove, the Garrick Club, London, and the Ruth Borchard Next Generation Collection.

She first discovered printmaking in her second year at Glasgow School of Art, but in recent years, with encouragement and support from friends and staff, she has re-discovered the joy of etching at Glasgow Print Studio.
