This print was created in conjunction with the Glasgow Print Studio 50th Anniversary Here & Now Legacy Project. “I have lived up on the Fells for twenty-five years making visual records of the changes that have taken place. I live nearly a thousand feet up, drawing subjects outside in situ then transferring these drawings onto a soft ground covered plate at the Glasgow Print Studio. Through this process I find that I don’t lose the study of the line and it lends itself to changing certain elements of the composition.”

Fiona MacKinnon was born in 1946 in Aberdeen, Scotland. She did her foundation at The Bolton College of Art, where she won the Openshaw Scholarship. She was the youngest person to enter a linocut print into the Annual Show at the Manchester Academy, which sold. She then went on to receive a BA in Fine Art at Cheltenham.

MacKinnon spent ten years teaching as a secondary school teacher, followed by a year’s study of printmaking at Carlisle Art College. After this she set up her own print studio with a Bewick and Wilson Press. Since joining the Glasgow Print Studio in her forties she has been using the facilities ever since.

MacKinnon exhibits at The Upfront Gallery in Cumbria, and has also shown work at The Lancaster Museum and Art Gallery.
