"This etching is part of a series of old typewriter etchings I’ve been making for several years. This particular etching was inspired by an 1876 Sholes Glidden typewriter that I saw in the National Museum of Scotland. It was donated to the museum by Ethelinda Hadwen - a suffragette who opened up typewriting offices in Edinburgh employing women. The typewriter was both a tool for suffragette campaigning and one of the key technologies associated with women going into the workplace and moving into the public sphere."
