"'Tribe' is a development of drawings I have done looking at the notion of 'othering' or placing individuals or groups into the category of 'not like us'. It usually happens from a vantage point of being part of a like-minded group of people - your own tribe."
"From football, music, religion and politics, it is obvious that the notion of 'tribe' is powerful and can be regarded as both positive and negative. I decided that anything over three people could be regarded as 'A Tribe'."
"I have coloured these prints blue with the idea that there will be a red Tribe version and a green one. A simple example of the differences which divide."
Heather Nevay was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1965. She went to Glasgow School of Art in 1983 and studied Printed Textiles receiving a BA Hons Art and Design in 1988. She has been a full-time painter for over 25 years and was encouraged to ‘come and try’ etching by June Carey as she enjoys the process of drawing. She has been a member of Glasgow Print Studio since 2019, and exhibited her work in the main gallery in the ‘5 @ GPS’ in November 2021.
