Featured Artist: Nichola Scrutton
Forthcoming exhibition
Overview
Glasgow Print Studio is delighted to present the first exhibition of visual works by composer and artist Nichola Scrutton.
A Kind of Scoring presents a series of abstracted landscapes that evoke experiences of sound and listening. Scrutton is particularly interested in an extended idea of listening, as a felt sense and awareness, and approaches the printmaking process as a kind of scoring.
Nichola Scrutton has a background in electroacoustic and acousmatic composition, and her work includes sound and radio art, soundscape, improvisation, voice, drawing, and performance. Scrutton explores ongoing themes from psychology, somatic experience, modes of listening, and an encounter with the ephemeral nature of sound, memory, and dreams.

Recent works include Windborne (soundscape), an etching selected for the Royal Society of British Artists annual exhibition, Mall Galleries; Dream Stream, a radio art commission for Radio Art Zone's broadcast of 100 artists over 100 days for the European Capital of Culture at Esch, with two drawings and a micro-essay later published in the Radio Art Zone book; Interzone, released on Nonclassical; and Night Vision, a live ensemble performance, with original text developed as script/score/sound (supported by Creative Scotland).
Scrutton has extensive experience in interdisciplinary collaborations, for example, Rough Breathing performance with clarinettist Alex South (CCA/AC Projects Residency, Tectonics Festival, shortlisted for the SAfNM ISM Prize for Collaboration), and Lying Over Under Another with writer Zoë Strachan, a radio artwork produced as part of their collaborative Second Life Award from the Edwin Morgan Trust. She also works with Sonic Bothy inclusive music charity in the Ensemble and across a range of projects.
Her new release Scenes from the Blue, comes out on 6th March 2026 at Bandcamp (with support from Creative Scotland), and she is currently an In Motion composer with Sound and Music.
