Featured Artist: Alan Campbell: Ground Floor Gallery

7 - 29 October 2022
Overview

"You will burn and you will burn out; you will be healed and come back again."

- Fyodor Dostoevsky, from The Brothers Karamazov.

What Burns Never Returns, a solo exhibition from Glasgow based artist Alan Campbell, features a collection of print work focused on overlays, experiments, test prints, refinement, and curation.

The focus of the exhibition began with the idea of letting go, accepting change, and moving on.

The exhibition has a companion publication "What Burns never returns", a 48 page book which is a facsimile copy of one of Alan's sketchbooks that he screen-printed directly into from 2019 until 2022. The publication is printed in a limited edition of 50, each being signed, numbered and embossed.

The title of this show is taken from the title of the third album by Don Caballero, a Pittsburgh-based math rock band released in 1998.

Alan Campbell is a multidisciplinary Glasgow-based artist who studied Politics and Economics at Glasgow Caledonian University, graduating in 2010. Since then, has exhibited extensively in solo and joint exhibitions across Glasgow as well as featured in group shows in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, and Denver. Including officially licensed work for Monty Python and print releases with New York's Bottleneck Gallery.

Upcoming exhibitions include Glasgow Print Studio's 50th Anniversary Exhibition, The Love of Print at Kelvingrove Art Gallery in November 2022. And a continued collaboration with Bruma Brew, a micro brasserie in the south of France.
