40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
Songs for Drella makes reference to a concept album by Lou Reed and John Cale, both formerly of The Velvet Underground. Drella was a nickname for Andy Warhol; a word play on Dracula and Cinderella. Myles’ work is underpinned by an interest in language, meaning and linguistic play. He first watched a performance of Songs for Drella twenty years ago as he began studying at Art College. Myles recounts this early encounter as a possible inspiration for this new work, and an accompanying conversation between himself and a fellow student about the work of Andy Warhol and Abstract Expressionism. For the edition Myles has experimented with a new process for him, feeding each screenprinted sheet through a letterpress machine, creating forty unique prints for GPS.
Scott Myles’ conceptually based practice encompasses sculpture, installation, painting and print. He began to use Glasgow Print Studio in 2007 to create his large format screenprints on paper and aluminium. He had a solo exhibition ELBA in the Gallery in 2010 and the following year made an edition Search and Re search with the Print Studio.
