40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
Symbols relating to Glasgow and Scotland’s heritage feature in this image; heraldic flags, Latin text from inscriptions on buildings and the Print Studio’s initials on a shield. The print is part of a new body of work, inspired by visits to Scotland’s castles, palaces and museums. As the artist explains; “The research for this new work has taken me on a journey of discovery which has offered me a rich source of ideas and has inspired new pride in my own Scottish Culture.” The print’s title translates from Latin as ‘The Anniversary’, reflecting the idea behind the 40/40 project.
June has been creating prints at the Print Studio since the late 1980s and had her first solo exhibition, The Dream Machine, in the gallery in 1993.
