In January 2022, 50 members were invited to make a print edition for The Love of Print: 50 years of Glasgow Print Studio. Each artist was challenged to "pull out all the stops to make the best work possible." The only criteria were that the paper size should be 72cm x 52cm and the edition size should be no less than 10. Paper and inks were kindly donated by John Purcell Paper. Technical advice and support in the production of the works was provided by GPS workshop staff.
To mark the 50th Anniversary and provide a legacy, each artist gifted one print to the permanent GPS Archive collection and one to the Here & Now Legacy Print Box.
The Here & Now Legacy project was supported by staff across all areas of the organisation from gallery, workshop, Archive and Learning and aims to provide a rich resource for future generations to learn about and be inspired by fine art printmaking. Information about the 50 artists and their prints was gathered along with interviews and photographs taken during the production of the prints. Short films are currently being produced and will be available to view alongside the artworks in this section. The Legacy Print Box will be available to loan by schools and community groups as part of our Learning programme throughout 2023-24.
Special thanks to all of the artists who generously gave their time and commitment.
