This print was created in conjunction with the Glasgow Print Studio 50th Anniversary Here & Now Legacy Project. "My artistic practice is often inspired by the natural world and our dynamic relationship with it. For this work I considered the importance of trees in our lives and the fact that without them, we literally would not exist."
"For this work I chose the subject of an ancient oak, a species which is native to Scotland, and of which there are living examples near Glasgow that are over 800 years old. I wanted it to appear both benevolent and monumental, in recognition of the fact that trees like this give the impression of possessing an inherent wisdom; they both give life and simultaneously, within their structure, record and reflect the environmental and historical events happening around them."
Zoe Kean was born in Edinburgh in 1962. She studied at Glasgow School of Art from 2002 - 2006 and graduated with BA Hons Fine Art Sculpture. After completing an etching course at Glasgow Print Studio in 2007 she joined as a member and has been an avid printmaker ever since. Her practice includes etching, collagraphy, monoprint and linocut and is often inspired by the natural world.
