40/40 is a suite of prints created in 2013 celebrating Glasgow Print Studio's 40 years in existence. 40 artists associated with Glasgow Print Studio were invited to make editions of 40 prints in whatever print medium they chose.
A photograph taken by George Brook - long time friend and occasional collaborator with the artist, was the inspiration for this print. It shows the artist and a police horse exercising at the top of Point Hill in Greenwich, Ray’s favourite place to look over the London skyline, the day before the horse had to be on duty for a Millwall vs. Leeds game. He explains, “It looks like it could be in the countryside and idyllic and not in one of the busiest cities in the world. That's the beautiful thing about the image - we could be anywhere.”
Ray Richardson was first invited to work at Glasgow Print Studio in 1991 and since that time has made 34 editions with the Print Studio and had two solo exhibitions in the Gallery.
