Michael Stumpf

Michael Stumpf was born in Mannheim, Germany. He studied Sculpture at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe between 1996-2001, and received an MFA from the Glasgow School of Art in 2004. Michael was a co-founder and curator of the independent exhibition space Kaiserpassage 21a in Karlsruhe. He served as a committee member of Transmission Gallery, Glasgow between 2004-2007.

The publication Silenzio/Poster was originally displayed at Glasgow Print Studio as part of the To Bring Forth and Give exhibition in 2008. Stumpf first screenprinted the word “silenzio” onto a sweatshirt, photographed it, and then used this photograph to make a screenprint of the sweatshirt itself, in process referencing the repetitive elements in screenprinting itself.

He has been Artist in Residence at The Banff Centre, Canada; the Scottish Sculpture Workshop; Covepark, Scotland and the Alte Feuerwache, Mannheim.
