The Blind House, is a series of etchings which are part of a body of work produced with the support of a Creative Scotland Award presented to Moyna Flannigan.

The first part of the Creative Scotland Award, a series of paintings reflecting a fictional, contemporary political dynasty were shown as an intervention in the historical collection at Mount Stuart, Isle of Bute. Since then, continuing the project, Flannigan has produced further related works including a suite of eight etching editions produced at Glasgow Print Studio.

Flannigan’s work is characterised by an exuberant imaginative energy, black humour and a probing critique of the effects of power on personal, cultural and political alienation in the modern world. Her paintings, works on paper and miniatures reflect the psychological crisis created in the individual by the distorted values of a world dominated by celebrity, financial greed, self-serving political and religious posturing, and are drawn from a huge range of reference points: from art history, film and popular culture.

Moyna Flannigan graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1985 and Yale University School of Art, USA in 1987. Solo exhibitions include Well, well, Doggerfisher, Edinburgh in 2006; Poke, Galerie Akinci, Amsterdam in 2006; and A Pie in the Kisser, Sara Meltzer Gallery, New York in 2005. Her series of portrait miniatures Once upon our time was commissioned by the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and exhibited there in 2004. In 2006 she was selected for the Mount Stuart visual arts residency and her work A Foot Print in the Hall was shown as an intervention in the historical collection at Mount Stuart.
