Stuart Duffin: A Redder Sun: First Floor Gallery

6 October - 18 November 2023
Overview

Glasgow Print Studio is delighted to present a solo exhibition of mezzotint engravings, etchings, and digital printmaking by Stuart Duffin RSA.

"There are two key words that I try to let govern my attitudes and actions in life, two words; coexistence and compassion, whether at home in Scotland or in the Middle East. Being an artist, for me, is not only a job or occupation but a way of life and so these two words also influence and inform what I do in my art."

Although a predominant theme in my work is conflict and resolution I consciously place a heavy emphasis on the resolution aspects as I believe in dialogue, building bridges, not walls between opposing communities. Peace is not just an absence of political, social or military conflict, but is a complete physical, mental and emotional wellbeing."

Stuart Duffin RSA is an acclaimed Scottish printmaker who has been a staff member at Glasgow Print Studio since 1984, working as Studio Manager from 1989-2002. He is currently working primarily in etching and mezzotint as the Studio Master Etcher. Born in 1959, Duffin studied at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen from 1978 to 1982, graduating in fine art printmaking. He is an Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy, a member of the International Mezzotint Society and was elected a Fellow of the RE (Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers) and a professional member of the SSA (Society of Scottish Artists).

Since 1996, he has completed several residencies in Jerusalem. The city, with the burden of historical and contemporary baggage that it bears, has remained the foundation for all of Duffin's artistic output. He sees the welfare of Jerusalem as a barometer to the wellbeing of our own basic humanity, not only as individuals, but collectively as a global society.
