Overview

Allan Richardson was born in Glasgow in 1965. He is a self-taught artist, and his art practice involves painting, drawing and printmaking. He has been a member of Glasgow Print Studio since the early 1990s and is fascinated by a variety of printmaking processes, particularly etching, mezzotint, collagraph and linocut. His subject matter is inspired by the beauty of the rich and diverse Scottish landscapes, and the representation of everyday life in the city. Where possible he prefers to gather his source material from life, and he can often be seen out and about with his easel and pencils sketching in the West End of Glasgow.

For this exhibition, Richardson has also been inspired by local landmarks and architecture, as well as the history around Glasgow's coat of arms.

"I am inspired by my local surroundings and use the urban landscape as my subject matter. The cafes and cobbled lanes of the West End feature in many of my prints. I often paint or draw outside on location and really enjoy the whole process of urban sketching - engaging with the subject matter, as well as passing members of the public who show an interest."
