Intercity Prints: First Floor Gallery
This exhibition brings together works from the five major Scottish Print Studios - Glasgow Print Studio, Edinburgh Printmakers, Peacock Visual Arts, Dundee Contemporary Arts and Highland Print Studio.
These organisations are central to Scotland's strong Printmaking tradition. They are distinctive in their own right, but occasionally work together in project form under the banner of the Scottish Print Network.
The 10 prints on display from each studio give a window into their respective identities and span historical and contemporary works. Different collaborations and techniques give an accessible but rich perspective on printmaking produced in and by Scotland's principal workshops.
The exhibition started life as a road-trip, a post-lockdown reconnection, where Glasgow Print Studio travelled to the other four studios to discuss, to spend time, and to appreciate the outstanding quality of work on offer. Each studio was encouraged to make their own selections to best represent them.
"At Dundee Contemporary Arts we are delighted to be able to include some of our recent editions in Intercity Prints, from the impactful textual prints and delicate etchings of David Austen, to the shifting and beautifully complex symbolism of Rae-Yen Song. This represents a chance not only to highlight some of the incredible work that has taken place in our Studios, despite the many restrictions of the past couple of years, but also a much valued opportunity for staff and audiences to come together, in person, in conversation around these prints. "
"Edinburgh Printmakers is excited to present the work of ten artists from our archive, alongside print studios from across Scotland as part of "Intercity Prints" - our selection attempts to represent a variety of print methods, with works from 1987 to the present, and showcasing the diversity of printmaking in arts practice across Scotland. Many of these are rarely seen works by some of Scotland's most celebrated contemporary artists and we are delighted to share these finds from the Edinburgh Printmakers archive for this special exhibition."
